Funding

There are a number of funding opportunities available to individuals and organisations in Ryedale wishing to run arts activities. These vary in size from small grants for one off projects to more substantial grants for capital developments and larger schemes.

Ryedale Small Arts Project Grant Scheme
The aim of the scheme is to encourage groups to try out new activities or develop new ways of working by providing a financial safety net. The scheme can be used for the following examples or for your own idea:
  • Paying an artist's fees to run a taster workshop for a new activity
  • Market research or audience development activity
  • Feasibility study for a project that will feed into a larger funding bid
  • Production costs for some eye-catching marketing material
Who can apply and for how much?

There are two streams running in the small grants scheme:

  • Any arts or community group with a constitution and audited set of accounts will be eligible to apply for a grant of up to £200.
  • Informal groups and individuals can apply for grants of up to £100, this will be limited to supporting feasibility studies and taster sessions to test out the viability of new activities.

Ryedale Arts Development Grant Programme
This grants programme aims to help community and voluntary groups to set up arts and cultural projects and events by contributing to the costs. Projects must be for the benefit of people living in Ryedale.

Applicant organisations must:

  • Be a properly 'not for profit' constituted charity or voluntary organisation
  • Allow its membership to be open to all
  • Be capable of raising funds and have a locally controlled bank account
  • Be based in Ryedale or intend to undertake the project within Ryedale
What can the grant be used for?
  • Professional artists fees and expenses
  • Materials and equipment, but only when it is an integral part of the project
  • Event costs such as hire of rooms, costumes, pa systems or transport
  • Promotion, printing, postage
How much can we apply for?

Grants are available for between £200 and £2,000. The grant will contribute up to 80% of the cost of the project. The remaining 20% of your project costs can be made up from existing funds or fundraising activities. They can also include in kind support or volunteer time.

Ryedale Grants Main Programme
This grant scheme provides financial assistance to voluntary organisations and registered charities operating for the benefit of Ryedale residents.

Capital Grant Schemes

  • Project Grants - Applications will be considered from any voluntary organisation for grant aid towards the costs of capital projects such as facilities for active recreation and sports, and cultural facilities. Improvements to access for people with disabilities are included.
  • Village Hall Grants - Applications will be considered from village halls for grant aid towards the cost of capital projects.
Revenue Grant Schemes
  • Community Services Grants - Applications will be considered from organisations who provide a service of community benefit which contributes to the social well being of the district, not otherwise available.
  • Special Grants - Applications will be considered from voluntary groups such as Museums, Arts organisations and Sports clubs towards the cost of additional or new project work.
How much can you apply for?
  • Capital Grants - These grants will be awarded to a maximum of 20% of total capital project costs, subject to a maximum level of £25,000.
  • Revenue Grants - These grants are not awarded on a specific percentage basis. The amount of grant being requested must be clearly stated on the application form, all grants are awarded on merit. However sums will usually be of a nominal nature.

Main aim is to support projects which are open and accessible to the community, allowing people to enjoy a wide range of activities. They fund projects which enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities as well as projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community. Grants for the arts - individuals, organisations and national touring.
Grants for the arts are for individuals, arts organisations, national touring and other people who use the arts in their work. They are for activities that benefit people in England or that help artists and arts organisations from England to carry out their work.

REACT - Ryedale Regeneration Partnership
Supports environmentally based projects with grants up to £2000 for both capital and revenue projects. For application details contact Community Projects Officer (Sport and Recreation) at Ryedale District Council on 01653 600666.
